Rev. Terri
As with all of you, it’s been an interesting life with unexpected experiences. I was raised within a loving and generous Baptist community, attending church weekly with my family. Today my spiritual perspective sees a holy thread running through all traditions. With that, I have come to believe that we are responsible for developing our own relationship to that sacred "thread"; the challenge is getting beyond our wounds, conditioning, and expectations to hear what Spirit is whispering in our ear, first-hand.
Today, I work as a chaplain in a treatment facility serving those affected by substance abuse disorders. I also provide spiritual care to local organizations that support those who have experienced domestic violence and the marginalized. I’ve worked in human services for over 30 years, including time as an addictions counselor, victim advocate, and brief time helping run a women’s transition house. However, because I love all things health, my master’s degree is in health promotions. Years after graduation, the calling to chaplaincy work showed up and a new way of life began.
At first, the calling to chaplaincy was a surprise: "just love them, and encourage them to love one another." Now, everyday, I grow more excited about being Love and Grace in the world. There has never been a time in my life when I didn’t love to love people, with community as one of my favorite spiritual practices. I’m looking forward to a bright and loving future, sharing all I’ve learned with fellow travelers.
